Hey all, I am growing my vinyl collection (not for profit, these are simply for my listening pleasure only). However when it comes to Social D, I would like to get some rare stuff.
I just picked up a copy of MLM that was released on 13th floor. I has a red label and the jacket is just straight white (no pics, lyrics, etc). Here's my question, I don't think this is a first edition, but, are there any tell-tale signs that a copy IS a first edition? Was it on Poshboy? 13th Floor? I know there were a bunch of re-issues, but I'd like to find a first edition. I only paid about $17 for it, so I'm thinking its not so rare.
Thanks for any tips, in any case, it will be played nice and loud.

here's a link to one on ebay i found, so you can reference the picture of the label. my guess is you do have original wax, but the cover got destroyed somewhere along the way, or someone parted it out after using the sleeve as a cover and put it in a stock white sleeve.

hope this helps.

Hey, thanks all, very informative. I don't have the gatefold cover, which was my first hint it wasn't an original (but like i said, i only paid $17 for it). It does have the red label and skelly on it. I'll still hunt down the original and play this one
On another note, on ebay i'm noticing that SBHH is the hard (and EXPENSIVE) one to get. I think they just had one go for around $90....Wow.
Thanks!

I own an original first pressing of Mommy's Little Monster that I got off of a friend around '85 or so. The record jacket is what record collectors refer to as a "gatefold" cover (it opens up like a book). On the inside of the jacket on the left hand side is all of the song lyrics, and on the right side is a black and white collage of about a hundred or so band photos all pieced together. The record has a red center label on both sides like you described, with a white "Skelly" in the center and white printing. The album was released in 1983 on 13th Floor Records, which was the record label ran by the bands manager at the time, "Monk" (of "Another State of Mind" fame). Good luck to you in hunting down the rest of thier original older vinyl, it took me about ten years to track it all down. There's a LOT of bootlegs out there being passed off as originals too, so buyer beware. Anyway, I'll be more than happy to answer any questions anyone has out there about the vinyl released on Poshboy and 13th Floor....I personally own all of it.

I got a SBHH vinyl not too long ago for around $50... Also, someone just had an auction with the S/T, SBHH, Live at the Roxy, WLWHWT, and I think MLM i think one of Mike Ness Solo...All 6 went for well over $200.

Cheating at Solitaire was the one I found most difficult to track down so far...especially since I wasn't about to pay the going eBay price for it. Just be patient....the hunt is half the fun! I keep thinking I'll find something in the stacks at the record show I go to every few months, but nothing so far.

Ok, so last night I had to run an errand to a place I'd never been. As I'm leaving i see a record store tucked back into the corner of this strip mall.
They had an OK selection of vinyl and i found a few things. I ask if they have any Social D. The guys says, "just that one behind the counter". According to him it was a first edition MLM on clear vinyl, gatefold, etc. They wanted $80 for it. Ok folks...is this a real first edition or a ripoff on clear vinyl.
Once again, thanks for the info.
Oh, and yes...the chase is the fun part, I will actually be bummed the day i get all of them...I'll just have to pick another band and continue the quest!

Clear Vinyl is a triple x release, 1989 RI, not the first one on 13th floor.

"Rock'N'Roll" outlaw is right, Mommy's Little Monster pressed on clear vinyl is a Triple XXX re-issue (although I seem to remember it coming out in 1995?), the original pressing was only on black vinyl. In case you run across this one too, Triple XXX re-issued the "Another State of Mind" 7" ep on clear vinyl also, but the original is on black vinyl. It's pretty simple to tell....if you look on the back of the record jacket, "Triple XXX" should be clearly printed in red on it. I owned the Triple XXX re-issue of the "Another State of Mind" 7" ep for a bit before I found the original on 13th Story. Tell that record store guy to go do his homework, $80.00 for a re-issue (even if it IS on clear vinyl) is ridiculous, I've never paid THAT much for ANY of my original pressings! Here's some more info for you too, while we're at it....there are two different versions of the "1945" ep, a 7" version and a 12" version, both are black vinyl (the 12" version was the second pressing). Also, the red vinyl "Mainliner" 7" ep you have probably seen listed on Ebay lately is a repress (the label that's releasing it is unknown to me) and more likely than not, a bootleg....the original was on black vinyl.
